Wongani Lungu has revealed that FCB Nyasa Big Bullets’ players are focused on finishing the season by lifting two trophies.
The People’s Team moved a step closer to that goal after a strong 2–0 win over Mzuzu City Hammers at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday, booking a spot in the Castel Challenge Cup final.
Lungu was the hero on the day, firing a goal in each half to guide Gilbert Chirwa’s side to Bingu National Stadium on 21 February, where they will face Goshen City Dedza Dynamos in the final.
His clinical finishing and intelligent movement helped break down a resilient Hammers defence and kept Bullets on track to achieve the team’s aim of finishing the season with two trophies.
Speaking after the semifinal, Lungu told club media: “As players, our desire is to win the Castel Challenge Cup so that we can secure two trophies and also have a chance to play in the CAF Confederations Cup, so we’re very happy.”
Reflecting on the match, Lungu acknowledged the effort of his former club. Despite their relegation from the TNM Super League, they put up a strong challenge.
“Credit to our opponents — despite being relegated from the league, they played very well and gave us a tough match today,” he said.
On receiving the Player of the Match award, Lungu expressed pride in contributing to the team’s objective.
“I am delighted to be named Player of the Match and to score twice in such an important game,” he added.
Lungu also highlighted the influence of Yamikani Mologeni, whose vision and confidence have been key throughout the campaign.
The fullback provided assists for both goals on Sunday, continuing his impressive tally of six assists in Bullets’ ten goals in the tournament.
“Mologeni is a very important player for Bullets. When he is on the ball, he knows exactly what to do and plays with great confidence. I am happy to have received assists from him for both my goals today,” Lungu commented.
The midfielder also called on supporters to get behind the team for the final.
“I urge all Bullets supporters to come out in large numbers to support us in the final. Their support gives us confidence and motivates us,” he said.
With the Castel Challenge Cup final coming up, Bullets are focused on capping the season with a second trophy — and your support will be key in helping The People’s Team achieve that goal.
