FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Under-19 struck twice inside the opening 20 minutes to beat Griffin FC 2-0 on Saturday morning at Mpira Stadium to maintain their perfect start to the 2026 Blantyre District Football Committee Under-19 FCB Katswiri League season.
Hopeson Nkhata handed the young Bullets an early lead before Gomegzani Maziya doubled the advantage from a cleverly worked corner routine, giving Yamikani Fodya’s side a deserved two-goal lead before the break.
Griffin responded with an improved display after the restart, but Bullets Under-19 defended resolutely, with goalkeeper Hopeson Phiri producing key saves to preserve a second successive clean sheet.
Fast start lays foundation
Bullets Under-19 made the perfect start when Nkhata capitalised on winning possession high up the pitch before calmly slotting home in the fourth minute.
The forward almost doubled his tally five minutes later after being released by Hassan Madula, but his powerful long-range effort drifted wide of the target.
The visitors continued to dominate possession and dictate the tempo, keeping Griffin on the back foot as they searched for a second goal.
Their pressure paid off in the 20th minute when Gomegzani Maziya finished off a cleverly worked quick corner routine with Blessings Lungu. The move caught Griffin’s defence off guard, allowing the midfielder to fire home and double Bullets’ advantage.
Griffin gradually worked their way into the contest and almost reduced the deficit midway through the half, but Bullets remained organised defensively to clear the danger.
The hosts came closest in the 31st minute when Imran Saidi forced Hopeson Phiri into an excellent save. The rebound fell kindly to Emmanuel Hamilton, but he sent his follow-up effort wide of the target.
Phiri was called into action again moments later, comfortably gathering Saidi’s dangerous free-kick to preserve Bullets’ two-goal cushion.
Bullets Under-19 nearly added a third before the break when Madula won possession and released Nkhata down the flank, but Nkhata’s inviting cross flashed across the face of goal without a teammate applying the finishing touch.
Bullets stand firm
Fodya introduced Elias Redson for Esau Kumwenda at the start of the second half as Griffin emerged with greater urgency in search of a route back into the contest.
Despite the hosts’ improved spell, Bullets remained composed and soon threatened again. Maziya’s corner found Francis Alfazema, whose towering header drifted narrowly wide before Madula combined with Nkhata to create another opening that the striker failed to convert.
Griffin continued to press but struggled to break down Bullets’ disciplined back line, while Saidi wasted a corner by sending his delivery straight out of play.
Fodya freshened up his side just after the hour mark, introducing Joel Maziya for Dickson Kameza as the visitors continued to control the contest.
Bullets continued to threaten from set-pieces midway through the half. Griffin’s Yamikani Mwafongo became the first player cautioned after bringing down Joel Maziya in a dangerous area.
Joel Maziya’s resulting free-kick picked out Madula inside the box, but the midfielder’s header sailed over the crossbar.
Griffin continued to search for a breakthrough and won a free-kick shortly afterwards, but the resulting header flew over the bar as Bullets’ defence remained resolute.
The hosts’ frustration showed again in the 71st minute when Emmanuel Hamilton was booked for a reckless challenge on Alfazema.
Fodya made his final change in the closing stages, introducing Caleb Chapendeka for opening goalscorer Nkhata as Bullets comfortably saw out the remaining minutes.
The result made it two wins from two for Bullets Under-19 in the FCB Katswiri League, with Fodya’s side scoring five goals without reply after successive victories over Yizo Yizo and Griffin FC.
