FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves travel to Mpira Stadium on Sunday morning to face leaders Ekhaya Reserves in a top-two SRFA FINCA Division One League encounter.
Henry Kabichi’s side head into the fixture second in the standings with 22 points, five behind Ekhaya, meaning victory would cut the gap at the summit to just two points.
The young Bullets arrive in strong form after winning each of their last five league matches, with Kondwani Chaula’s first-half strike securing a 1-0 victory over Liberty FC at Kamuzu Stadium in their previous outing.
Ekhaya, meanwhile, strengthened their grip on top spot with a 3-1 win over Nyambadwe United last weekend to move onto 27 points.
Last season’s meetings produced one draw and one defeat for Bullets Reserves. Ekhaya recorded a 3-0 victory in the first encounter before the reverse fixture ended goalless.
Kabichi says preparations have gone well throughout the week and believes his players understand the importance of Sunday’s contest.
“Preparations have gone very well this week. The boys have responded positively in training and they know how important this game is for us. The mood in camp is good, and everyone is focused and ready for Sunday.”
Despite their recent run of results, the Reserves head coach wants his side to become more clinical after continuing to create chances without always making the most of them.
“We have also spent a lot of time working on our finishing. We are creating chances, but we have not always made the most of them, so the emphasis has been on being more clinical and taking our opportunities when they come.”
Bullets will be without Mtende Mayuni, who has joined the injury list, while Kondwani Mhone remains sidelined with a long-term injury and Daniel White is also unavailable for selection.
Kabichi expects a different challenge against the league leaders and has called for discipline and focus from his players.
“We know Ekhaya will present a different challenge because they are a very good side. We have to stay focused, work hard for each other and execute our game plan properly. In a game like this, you have to be disciplined and make the most of the chances you create.”
Kick-off is at 11:00 at Mpira Stadium as Bullets Reserves look to cut Ekhaya’s five-point advantage and strengthen their position in the SRFA FINCA Division One League title race.
