FCB Nyasa Big Bullets are continuing to carefully manage Chrispin Mapemba’s recovery as the wingback works towards a return from a long-term knee injury.
Head coach Wedson Nyirenda has confirmed that Mapemba remains unavailable, with his anticipated return to light training delayed as the club’s medical team continues to monitor his progress.
Mapemba had been expected to begin light work this week, but Nyirenda confirmed that the process will not be rushed.
“The boy was supposed to start light training this week, but the doctors still have one or two things to look at,” Nyirenda said.
“We cannot force it. It’s a long-term injury, so we should be careful with him.”
Mapemba’s recovery journey stretches back to 9 November 2024, when he suffered the knee injury during our Airtel Top 8 final against Silver Strikers at Bingu National Stadium.
The wingback was forced off in the first half as Bullets went on to win 1-0 and successfully defend the Airtel Top 8 title.
The injury kept him out for almost a year before he returned to competitive action towards the end of the 2025 campaign.
His comeback was interrupted again before the end of the season, with Mapemba returning to the sidelines and remaining unavailable into 2026.
Further medical intervention followed when he underwent successful knee surgery in Tanzania in April.
The procedure involved arthroscopic surgery with a partial meniscectomy, after which Mapemba continued his recovery under the supervision of the Bullets medical team.
He has remained on a structured recovery programme throughout the current campaign.
His progress had taken him towards a possible return to light training this week, but that step has now been delayed.
Mapemba remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from the long-term knee injury.
