Bullets Reserves target top spot against Ntopwa

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves travel to Mpira Stadium on Sunday to face Ntopwa FC with an opportunity to move to the top of the SRFA FINCA Division One standings.

Henry Kabichi’s side sit second on 25 points from 12 matches, two behind leaders Ekhaya Reserves and one ahead of third-placed FC Thondwe, who have also played 12 games. Liberty FC are fourth with 23 points.

Bullets head into the encounter on the back of six consecutive league victories, the latest a 2-1 win over Ekhaya at Mpira Stadium last Sunday.

Three points against Ntopwa would take the Reserves onto 28 and temporarily above Ekhaya, who are due to face Chilomoni in a midweek fixture on Wednesday.

Ntopwa, meanwhile, will be looking to respond after a 2-1 defeat to QPL All Stars in their previous outing.

Assistant coach Gift Nyirenda says preparations have gone well during the week and believes the players are ready to translate their work on the training ground into Sunday’s contest.

“All the preparation has been going well this week and we believe that if the boys implement what we have been doing, we will have positive results at the end of the day.”

Finishing has again been one of the areas of focus in training as the technical team looks for greater efficiency in front of goal.

“We have been working on our finishing because we are creating many chances but converting only a few of them. We just need to instil confidence in the boys so that we can convert the chances we create.”

Nyirenda believes the recent run has also lifted confidence within the squad, but expects another demanding assignment against Ntopwa.

“Going into this match with this impressive run will help boost the morale of our boys. They should go into the match with high spirit and believe in themselves that they can do a good job.

“We know that with the run we have, Ntopwa FC will come hard at us, but we are ready for the challenge.”

Bullets will remain without Kondwani Mhone, Limbani Manyamba and Mtende Mayuni, who have been on the sidelines for several weeks due to injuries.

Last season’s two league meetings produced one win and one draw for the young Bullets. Kabichi’s side won the first encounter 4-1 before the reverse fixture ended 1-1.

Kick-off is at 11:00 at Mpira Stadium as Bullets Reserves look to secure another important result and move to the top of the standings.
