FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Wedson Nyirenda is delighted to see The People’s Team finally get the reward for the chances they have been creating after a five-star display against Silver Strikers on Saturday.
Bullets rounded off the first round of the FDH Bank Premiership in emphatic fashion, hammering The Bankers 5-0 at Mpira Stadium, with Ephraim Kondowe’s hat-trick complemented by goals from Wongani Lungu and Misheck Billiat.
The result was particularly satisfying after The People’s Team had created numerous opportunities in previous matches without always making the most of them.
For Nyirenda, Saturday’s clinical display was a reflection of the work put in on the training ground over the past two weeks.
“We knew it was coming. It wasn’t a very difficult game. It was easy to plan against a tactically advanced team, and you know exactly what they do.
“We knew their strength, and then we planned around that and used our strength on them by working on their weaknesses.
“I think it was a well-planned game. Everyone was doing exactly what we expected. In the past two weeks, we have worked on our finishing, and today, we are happy that it came to pass,” he said.
Kondowe opened the scoring inside the first minute before adding a second in the 34th minute, while Lungu made it 3-0 just before half-time.
The striker completed his hat-trick in the 61st minute, with Billiat rounding off the scoring nine minutes later.
The five-goal victory was Bullets’ biggest win of the season and the highest-scoring league performance of the campaign so far.
“I think this is just the beginning of good things. The boys can now be comfortable and score at will. They were very composed today, and with the chances that we have been creating, we hope we shall be recording a lot of goals,” he added.
The victory also carried added significance for Nyirenda, with The Bankers having gone into the match two points ahead of Bullets.
“Playing Silver Strikers is already a motivation on its own, and the biggest motivation was that they were two points ahead of us. We needed that slot to get to the top. Obviously, that was the biggest motivation,” he explained.
Nyirenda was also pleased with the overall balance of the performance, dismissing the suggestion that Bullets’ success was built solely around their play in the wide areas.
“I don’t think we were only good in the wings. Every department did well today, and that is why we saw good fluidity from the back to the final third,” he said.
Bullets finished the first round with 20 goals scored and seven conceded, but Nyirenda is not satisfied with the team’s progress just yet.
“Not yet; we are still working on it,” he responded when asked whether he was satisfied with the team’s overall progress.
The People’s Team will now take a break before returning to action when the FDH Bank Premiership resumes for the second round.
