Ephraim Kondowe reflected on a superb individual performance after scoring a hat-trick in FCB Nyasa Big Bullets’ emphatic 5-0 victory over Silver Strikers.
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets produced one of their most convincing performances of the FDH Bank Premiership season on Saturday, sweeping aside Silver Strikers 5-0 at Mpira Stadium to strengthen their push at the top end of the table.
Kondowe was at the heart of the display, scoring three times before setting up Misheck Billiat for the fifth goal to cap a superb individual performance against The Bankers.
Speaking to club media after the match, Kondowe said the emphatic victory reflected the team’s ability to make the most of the opportunities it created.
“Our preparation was very good throughout the week. The coach made it clear what he expected from us, and we went into the game with a clear understanding of our approach. We knew what we had to do, and we executed it well.”
“We have put in a lot of work, and this time we were able to translate that preparation into our performance. We created opportunities, took our chances and ultimately got the result we were looking for.”
The result was a significant reward for a side that has produced a number of strong performances this season without always converting its opportunities into goals.
For Kondowe, the difference against Silver was the team’s ability to be more ruthless in front of goal.
“We have always believed in ourselves. There are games where you create chances but the goals don’t come, so you have to stay patient and keep working. Against Silver, we were much more clinical in front of goal, and that made a big difference.”
Kondowe’s hat-trick took his individual league tally to nine goals for the campaign, while his assist for Billiat’s strike completed a four-goal involvement in the victory.
The forward, however, was quick to shift the focus from his personal contribution to the collective effort behind the result.
“I’m happy to score three goals, but the most important thing is that the team won. Everyone contributed to the performance, and when we play with that level of unity and purpose, it gives the whole team confidence.”
The victory further strengthened Bullets’ momentum, but Kondowe insists the players must build on the performance rather than treat it as an isolated result.
“It’s an important win for us, but we cannot afford to get carried away. We have to take the confidence from this performance into the next games, stay focused and keep working because there is still a lot to play for.”
The forward also acknowledged the role of the Bullets faithful, whose support provided an extra lift from the stands.
“Our supporters were fantastic. They give us so much energy and motivation, and it means a lot to us when we see them behind the team. We are happy that we could reward them with a performance like this, and we thank them for their continued support.”
With the comprehensive victory now behind them, Kondowe believes the focus must shift towards maintaining the standards that produced such an impressive display against Silver.
“We have to stay focused, keep working and continue believing in what we are building. The important thing now is to maintain these standards and keep pushing towards our targets.”
