Squad Update: Nyirenda ahead of Masters FC

Wedson Nyirenda has reported no fresh injury concerns ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Masters FC, while a decision on Innocent Nyasulu’s inclusion in the travelling squad will follow further assessment.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Wedson Nyirenda has reported no fresh injury concerns as preparations continue for Sunday’s FDH Bank Premiership encounter at Bingu National Stadium.

The People’s Team return to Lilongwe for the 15:00 kick-off seeking a fourth successive victory since the league resumed.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Nyirenda confirmed that Chrispin Mapemba remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from a long-term knee injury.

“Everyone is fine apart from Mapemba, who is still injured,” he said.

Nyasulu has rejoined training after missing the Civil Service United encounter following his father’s passing. Nyirenda said a decision on whether the goalkeeper travels would be made after further assessment.

“He arrived in good time and trained with us. We are still assessing whether he will be ready to travel,” he explained.

“He looked good today, and he will train again tomorrow. We will make a decision before travelling.”

MacLean Mwale started against Civil and helped Bullets record a seventh successive league clean sheet in the 1-0 victory at Mpira Stadium.

Further forward, Nyirenda has been encouraged by George Chaomba and Paul Master following their returns from injury, highlighting their hunger and application.

“Chaomba and Paul Master were in the same situation. They were out for six weeks or more, and that gave them a lot of hunger for the game,” he said.

“They are quiet, disciplined, hardworking and eager to learn. They are quick learners.”

Master scored the winner against Civil in the 83rd minute after coming on at half-time, while Chaomba has also contributed from the bench since returning.

Nyirenda offered an update on Sheku Sheriff, who is waiting for his competitive opportunity after featuring in friendlies during the midseason break.

“Sheku has been here, and there is competition, but there is a right time for a player to come into the thick of things. We do not want to rush him,” said the head coach.

“There are players doing well in his position. He is a good player, his time will come, and when it does, he will show what he can do.”

Bullets head to Bingu with 39 points from 18 matches, three clear of Mighty Wanderers at the top of the standings.
