Babatunde Adepoju played his final match for FCB Nyasa Big Bullets on Saturday, scoring twice and providing an assist in a 4–0 TNM Super League victory over Mzuzu City Hammers at Kamuzu Stadium.
The Nigerian-born forward’s loan spell from South Africa’s Venda Football Club comes to an end on 31 December, marking his last appearance for The People’s Team.
A Fitting Farewell at Kamuzu Stadium
It was the perfect ending for Adepoju — decisive, emotional, and memorable. Leading Bullets’ dominant final-day performance, he was directly involved in two of the four goals as the club sealed second place in the TNM Super League with 66 points, three behind champions Mighty Wanderers.
“Scoring twice in my final match was special,” Adepoju reflected. “It was a great way to say goodbye, and I’m grateful for everything the club has given me.”
A Journey That Began in 2021
Adepoju’s Bullets story began in 2021, when he quickly established himself as one of the TNM Super League’s most clinical forwards.
His goal-scoring exploits earned him a move to Venda FC at the end of 2022, but his bond with Bullets remained strong. That connection saw him return on loan in 2024 and extend his stay into the 2025 season, becoming a central figure in the team’s attacking setup.
During the 2025 campaign, Baba featured in 28 league matches and made 35 appearances in all competitions, scoring 15 league goals and providing seven assists. He added four goals in the FDH Bank Cup, bringing his season total to 19 goals across all competitions.
Numbers That Tell the Story
Adepoju’s influence extended beyond individual seasons. Since his arrival at Bullets in 2021, he made 122 appearances for The People’s Team, contributing 97 goals and assists, a testament to his consistency and impact.
Reflecting on his performance, he noted, “Last season I scored 18 goals, and this year I managed 19 in all competitions. We finished second as a team, and I’m proud of what we achieved together.”
Chemistry That Delivered
A key factor in Adepoju’s success was his partnership with Chikumbutso Salima. The duo finished as joint top scorers in the TNM Super League and combined for a team-leading 18 assists this season, underscoring their understanding and teamwork on the field.
Together, Babatunde and Salima were directly involved in 48 of Bullets’ 60 league goals this season, highlighting just how central they were to the club’s attacking dominance.
“My partnership with Salima was very important,” Adepoju explained. “We understood each other well, our movements matched, and we created many chances together.”
That chemistry was on full display in the final match against Mzuzu City Hammers, which Adepoju described as “electric” and the standout moment of his season.
Gratitude to the Fans
Adepoju reserved special praise for Bullets supporters, calling them “incredible” and crediting their unwavering support for making his time at the club memorable.
Looking Ahead
As he prepares to return to Venda FC, Adepoju reflected on the growth he experienced at Bullets.
“Since joining Bullets in 2021, I’ve grown a lot as a player,” he shared. “The environment, the people, and the experiences here have made me better.” Representing Malawi internationally after acquiring citizenship earlier this year has also been a proud milestone.
While his immediate focus shifts to South Africa, Adepoju left the door open for a future reunion with Bullets.
“You never know what the future holds. If the opportunity to return to Bullets comes, I would always consider it,” he said.
