FCB Nyasa Big Bullets forward Babatunde Adepoju will have to wait a little longer to make his Malawi National Team debut after Thursday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier between the Flames and Equatorial Guinea was called off.
The match, which was scheduled to kick off at 18:00hrs at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, was cancelled on matchday after the visiting team failed to travel due to unforeseen logistical complications.
In a statement, the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) announced:
“The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) wishes to inform the general public that the FIFA World Cup qualifier between Malawi and Equatorial Guinea, which was scheduled for today at 18:00hrs at Bingu National Stadium, will not take place due to unforeseen travel complications affecting the visiting team.”
The development means Babatunde, who received his first Flames call-up this month after acquiring Malawian citizenship, will have to wait for another opportunity to represent his adopted nation.
He remains in camp alongside his Bullets teammate Yankho Singo, both part of Kalisto Pasuwa’s Flames squad preparing for the next qualifier against São Tomé and Príncipe in Tunis on Monday.
The Flames are expected to depart for Tunis on Friday to continue preparations for the away fixture.
The two are the remaining Bullets players in the national setup after Chikumbutso Salima withdrew earlier in the week through injury.
