Wasteful Nyasa Bullets Youth suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat at the hands of Maggie Chombo Academy in the FCB U-20 League on Saturday at Police Training School ground in Kanjedza.

The loss saw the young Bullets surrendering top spot to their opponents, who were second in the standings before Saturday’s clash.

Bullets Youth largely dominated play but were unable to get the results in their favour at the end of an entertaining match.

Neat exchange of passes in attacking patterns and several shots on target from Maule Kids in the opening stages of the first half translated into a beautiful goal when Blessings Mofolo found the back of the net on 26th minute.

The youngsters in red, black and white on the day were able to protect their lead throughout the first half, but could not hold on for long in the second half. Maggie Chombo Academy’s long balls and calculated counter attacks had the Bullets Youth side undone 3 minutes into the second half.

At 1-1, a win for Bullets looked very likely but a mistake at the back saw them concede another goal. Frustrated by a resilient Maggie Chombo Academy defense, Bullets Youth failed to fight back. In the closing minutes of the game the visitors scored their third to seal their victory on the day. 3-1 it ended.

Speaking after the match, Bullets Youth team manager Chiku Kanyenda expressed disappointment following the setback the young Bullets faced in the hunt for the their first ever FCB U-20 title. He was however quick to point that it was not over yet.

“It’s a disappointing loss, but all is not lost for us in this title race. Our kids dominated for the most part of the game but a lot was not on our side. We won’t talk about the bad officiation today, but we’ll go back with both the positives and negatives from this game. We will come back stronger in the following games,” said the former Bullets player.

Bullets Youth focus now will be shifted to their next game against Angaliba FC as they look not to drop any further points in order to win their first ever FCB U-20 title.
