Castel Cup Quarterfinal: Bullets to face Tigers on 31 Jan

Details for the FCB Nyasa Big Bullets versus Mighty Tigers Castel Challenge Cup quarterfinal tie have been confirmed.

The Football Association of Malawi has set the matchup for Saturday, 31 January, at Kamuzu Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 14:30.

Bullets will travel as the away side as they continue their push for a second Castel Challenge Cup crown following an impressive start to the competition.

The People’s Team booked their place in the last eight with a 3–1 comeback victory over Ndirande Stars in the Round of 16 at Kamuzu Stadium. After trailing at the break, Gilbert Chirwa’s men responded strongly through goals from Ephraim Kondowe and a brace from Maxwell Phodo, underlining their resilience and attacking quality.

Mighty Tigers secured their quarterfinal berth after edging Civil Service United 3–2 on penalties following a 1–1 draw in regulation time, showing composure in a tense knockout encounter.

The quarterfinal reignites a growing rivalry between the two sides. Their last meeting, just over a month ago, ended goalless and denied Bullets vital ground in the TNM Super League title race. Despite relegation at the end of the campaign, Tigers have made a strong statement in the final competition of the season, setting the stage for a fierce knockout showdown.

Bullets are chasing a second trophy of the campaign after lifting the Airtel Top 8 earlier in the season. The club last won the Castel Challenge Cup in 2023, a year that delivered a historic quadruple and cemented Maule’s domestic dominance.

Momentum continues to build under interim head coach Gilbert Chirwa, with the squad showing character and depth as the business end of the season approaches.

Elsewhere in the competition, two quarterfinal fixtures will be played this weekend. Ekhaya FC host Goshen City Dedza Dynamos at Mpira Stadium on Saturday, while Chitipa United welcome Blue Eagles at Chitipa Stadium on Sunday.

One Round of 16 tie remains, with Mzuzu City Hammers set to host Silver Strikers at Rumphi Stadium on Saturday. The winner of that encounter will face Mighty Wanderers in the quarterfinals.

FAM has further confirmed that the semifinals of the semi-finals will be played on the weekend of 7 and 8 February, with the final set for 15 February at a venue to be confirmed.

With a place in the Last 4 at stake, Bullets will be aiming to carry forward the momentum from their Round of 16 comeback and continue their pursuit of silverware, driven by belief, experience and the demands of knockout football.
