FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Interim Head Coach Gilbert Chirwa (1)

Chirwa delighted with Bullets’ 4-0 league finale victory

In his first game as head coach, Gilbert Chirwa led FCB Nyasa Big Bullets to a commanding 4-0 win, closing out the 2025 TNM Super League season in second place behind champions Mighty Wanderers with 66 points.

Chirwa made four changes to the side that drew 0-0 against relegated Mighty Tigers in the penultimate fixture, showing he meant business in the season finale. With Silver Strikers also chasing second place, Bullets needed a decisive performance to secure the runner-up spot.

The People’s Team dominated Mzuzu City Hammers at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday, with Babatunde Adepoju and Chikumbutso Salima both scoring braces, ending the league as joint top scorers with 15 goals each.

Chirwa, who took over from Peter Mponda as interim head coach last Sunday, expressed satisfaction with how his players executed the game plan despite early pressure from the visitors.

“Our strategy worked well. Mzuzu City Hammers pressed hard early, but the boys stayed focused and closed the season in style,” said the former Bullets defender.

He praised the efforts of his top scorers, Babatunde and Salima. “Both players worked hard this season, and scoring a brace each in the final match was well deserved. While we missed out on the league, having two joint top scorers and finishing second is encouraging,” he added.

Chirwa also commended the overall combinations and teamwork throughout the campaign.

“The combinations were excellent, and the boys displayed very good football despite some setbacks. Our supporters enjoyed every moment, and it’s motivating as we now turn our attention to the Castel Challenge Cup,” he expressed.

Bullets will regroup on 2 January ahead of their Round 32 clash against Songwe Border United in Karonga on 11 January 2026, focusing on the next competition.
