FCB Nyasa Big Bullets interim Head Coach Gilbert Chirwa has provided an update on the squad ahead of Sunday’s Castel Challenge Cup semifinal against Mzuzu City Hammers, with left-back Aaron Chilipa currently the only player not yet fully available for selection.
Bullets head into the last-four encounter at Kamuzu Stadium following a convincing 2–0 victory over Mighty Tigers FC in the quarterfinals. Preparations continue to intensify for the high-stakes fixture.
Speaking during Thursday’s pre-match press conference, Chirwa confirmed that the squad is largely in good condition, with Chilipa still recovering despite being actively involved in training this week.
“Preparations are going on very well. At the moment, the only injury concern is our left-back Aaron Chilipa, who has not fully recovered yet. Apart from that, the rest of the players are fit, sharp, and ready for the game,” said Chirwa.
Chilipa’s active involvement in training has been visible in recent sessions, but the interim coach reiterated that the defender has not yet fully recovered and is not available for selection.
Sunday’s semifinal will see The People’s Team renew their rivalry with Mzuzu City Hammers, the same opponents who eliminated Bullets at the semifinal stage of the competition last season. Chirwa stressed the importance of focus and discipline in cup football, warning against underestimating the opposition.
“We know the semifinal against Mzuzu City Hammers will not be easy. It is going to be a tough encounter because cup games are always difficult. We have told the boys not to underestimate Hammers. This is a very important match and we are ready for the challenge.”
In the quarterfinals, Mighty Wanderers looked set to reach the semifinals with a 1–0 lead until the 94th minute, when Mzuzu City Hammers equalized and eventually won on penalties. Asked about the dramatic finish, Chirwa said the team’s preparations were thorough regardless of which side advanced.
“We prepared for whichever team was going to qualify. Now that it is confirmed we are facing Mzuzu City Hammers, all our preparations are fully focused on them. The boys understand what is at stake and are ready to compete.”
With the majority of the squad available and confidence high following the quarterfinal victory, Bullets will head into Sunday’s semifinal determined to secure a place in the Castel Challenge Cup final.
The People’s Team are pushing for a second piece of silverware this season, having already lifted the Airtel Top 8.
Kick-off is scheduled for 14:30 at Kamuzu Stadium, with supporters encouraged to arrive early and rally behind The People’s Team.
Tickets will be available on matchday at Kamuzu Stadium: Open Stands – K5,000, MBC Stand – K7,000, Covered Stands – K10,000, and VIP Stand – K15,000.
