FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women head coach Maggie Chombo has praised her players for a strong and highly encouraging debut season in the inaugural NBM Women’s Premiership.
The Maule Ladies concluded the season on Sunday with a 2–1 defeat to champions Silver Strikers Ladies at Silver Stadium, bringing to an end a season that saw Bullets establish themselves among the league’s most competitive sides and finish on 31 points.
In 18 league fixtures, our women’s side recorded nine wins, four draws, and five losses, scoring 27 goals while conceding 14. The record reflects a team that combined attacking flair with solid defensive organisation throughout the season.
Bullets Women were competitive against the league’s top three sides throughout the season. They fell 1–0 at home and 2–1 away to champions Silver Strikers Ladies.
Against runners-up Ascent Academy, they suffered a 3–1 defeat away but bounced back with a 2–1 home victory.
Both encounters with third-placed MDF Lioness ended in 1–1 draws, highlighting the team’s ability to match the league’s strongest sides.
Silver wrapped up the title with an impressive 48 points, with Ascent finishing second on 41 points, underlining the high quality and competitiveness of the league in its inaugural season.
Travelling to Lilongwe for the final round of matches, Chombo’s squad remained firmly in contention for a top-three finish until the closing stages of the season. Fine margins ultimately shaped the final standings, but Chombo believes her side can take great pride from their overall performance.
“I am very proud of the girls and what they have achieved this season,” Chombo said after the match. “This was our first time competing at national level, and the way the players handled themselves throughout the campaign was impressive.”
Throughout the season, Maule Ladies showed steady improvement, combining organisation, discipline and attacking intent as they grew in confidence with each fixture. Their performances earned respect across the league and reflected the club’s commitment to building a competitive women’s side capable of challenging at the highest level.
Chombo also took time to congratulate the champions, Silver Strikers Ladies, on a successful campaign, in which they won 16 games, drew none, and lost only twice.
“Silver had a very good season, and we congratulate them on winning the championship. They were consistent and deserved the title,” she said.
Looking ahead, the Bullets Women head coach believes the experience gained during the inaugural season provides a strong foundation to build on.
“This season has been about learning, growth and laying a foundation. The character, commitment and hunger shown by the players give us a lot to be excited about going forward. We will take these lessons into the off-season and work hard to come back even stronger,” Chombo concluded.
