Chombo: We took control after finding our rhythm

Head coach Maggie Chombo lauded her side’s composure and response after a slow start as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women cruised to a 4–0 victory over Topik Academy in the NBM Women’s Premiership at Mpira Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Goals from Chikondi Mgodi (brace), Caroline Mlezo, and Vanessa Issa gave The People’s Team a perfect response following a month without competitive action.

“We Controlled the Game After Gaining Momentum”

Reflecting on the performance, Chombo acknowledged the team’s slow start but praised their swift recovery and dominance as the match progressed.

“We were not expecting an easy game, and our girls started the match on a slow note. However, after gaining momentum, we controlled the game and managed to score the goals.”

The coach also revealed that the absence of several regular starters made the task more challenging but commended her squad for rising to the occasion.

“The absence of seven key players affected us, but we are doing our best to make the most of the squad we have. We also missed a number of chances today, which shows that we need to work harder on our finishing so that we can convert our opportunities into goals.”

Focus Shifts to the Next Challenge

The win provides the perfect boost ahead of a challenging nine-day stretch for Bullets Women, who now turn their focus to two crucial upcoming fixtures.

“We’ll go back to training, address our weaknesses, and prepare for our next match. It’s all about improving step by step and taking each game as it comes.”

The result lifted The People’s Team to fifth position in the standings, with three wins, one draw, and two defeats from their opening six matches.

Next up, Bullets Women face Mighty Wanderers Queens in the women’s Blantyre derby on Saturday, 12 October 2025, before hosting Silver Strikers Ladies three days later at Mpira Stadium.
