Zicco Mkanda joins Bullets, handed one-year deal

Zicco Mkanda is now a Nyasa Big Bullets player as the club has handed the striker a one-year contract.

The former Be Forward Wanderers striker has joined The People’s Team as a free agent following his release from the Nomads.

Mkanda impressed the Bullets coaching panel, headed by Zimbabwean Kalisto Pasuwa, during a three-week trial.

The striker said he looks forward to winning the TNM Super League championship and cups at Bullets.

“I am delighted to have joined Bullets and I am looking forward to winning the championship and cups with the club,” he told Bullets Media Desk.

The 29-year old attacker is confident of scoring more goals if given more game time in the 2020 season.

“I have got what it takes to score more goals for Bullets if given game time. I like the offensive football that we are learning here [at Bullets] and I am eager to capitalize on this style of play to score a lot of goals,” he added.

Commenting on Mkanda’s acquisition, Pasuwa said he was happy with the coming in of Zicco.

Said the coach: “A very exciting player who will not be given pressure to perform. We will try our level best to make him improve in all the areas he is lacking.

“He has joined a club where there is always pressure on players who have just joined in, but we will try as much as possible to make him improve and play the Bullets way.”

Pasuwa believes Mkanda will bring experience to the team in both the local and continental competitions.

“He will definitely add depth to our squad in a season where we will also take part in the CAF Champions League. Last time we had problems in terms of scoring and the coming in of him will make us good in the offensive part,” he stated.

In the 2018 season, Mkanda scored 12 goals in the TNM Super League before winning the golden boot in the FISD Cup.

Last season, the forward scored four league goals for his former club in the championship won by Bullets.

Mkanda, Bullets’ second new signing this year, played in the Mozambican Mocambola league before joining the TNM Super League.

The People’s Team also signed Misheck Seleman from Karonga United on Tuesday.
