Early Team News: Bullets vs Kamuzu Barracks

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have received a timely boost ahead of Saturday’s FDH Bank Cup quarterfinal against Kamuzu Barracks at Kamuzu Stadium, with several key players returning to bolster the squad.

The fixture comes just after the FIFA international break, with The People’s Team shifting focus back to domestic cup football.

Speaking to the media, first assistant coach Gilbert Chirwa shared encouraging updates on player readiness and recovery as Bullets aim to progress to the semifinals of the competition we won in 2022 and 2023.

Chirwa confirmed that all players who were away on national duty with Malawi have rejoined the squad and are available for selection this weekend.

“All the players who were with the national team are back and ready for selection after training with us this morning,” said Chirwa on Thursday.

The return of the internationals gives Bullets added options ahead of the knockout clash.

Among them is forward Babatunde Adepoju, who made his debut for Malawi during the recent international window. Chirwa said the striker will need time to fully settle at international level but remains in good shape for club action.

“It was his first international game, and for one to settle down, he needs more time. But now that he has had a feel of international football, I believe he will do well in future games once he settles.”

After missing recent fixtures through injury, Chikumbutso Salima has returned to full training and is expected to be available for selection against Kamuzu Barracks.

“He is back, he has been training with the team, and I am sure he will be available against Kamuzu Barracks,” confirmed Chirwa.

Salima’s return adds pace and width to Bullets’ attack as The People’s Team look to reclaim the FDH Bank Cup title.

The technical team will continue to monitor the fitness of Andrew Jovinala and Chrispin Mapemba, both of whom have resumed training but are yet to reach full match fitness.

“Andrew Jovinala is back but not fully fit. The same applies to Mapemba — he’s back but not yet ready for selection. I’m sure they will be available in a few weeks,” said Chirwa.

Chirwa emphasised that the squad has trained well following the international break and remains focused on Saturday’s crucial quarterfinal.

“Looking at the way the players are doing in training, we are very okay, we are very ready, and are hoping to have a good game.”

The People’s Team will be looking to book a place in the FDH Bank Cup semifinals as they continue their pursuit of silverware under Peter Mponda’s technical team.
