Starting XI: Babatunde & Gumbo return as Master misses out

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have named the squad to face Songwe Border United in today’s TNM Super League clash at Karonga Stadium.

The People’s Team hammered Songwe 7-0 in the first-round meeting at Kamuzu Stadium back in May, and Peter Mponda’s charges will be aiming to complete a league double while wrapping up the two-week Northern Region trip with another vital three points.

Victory would see Bullets reclaim top spot from Mighty Wanderers, who currently lead the standings by a single point and face Creck Sporting Club this afternoon. With the title race finely poised, three points against bottom-placed Songwe are crucial to keeping pace and maintaining momentum in the second half of the campaign.

Paul Master misses this afternoon’s encounter through suspension after accumulating his third yellow card of the season against Chitipa United last Saturday.

Mponda has recalled striker Babatunde Adepoju and midfielder Chawanangwa Gumbo to the starting lineup. Adepoju, who netted four and provided an assist against Chilumba Barracks before coming off the bench to score from the spot against Chitipa, starts alongside Gumbo, who also returns after featuring in the FDH Bank Cup last week.

Blessings Mpokera and Yankho Singo are also in the XI, with both looking to build on their return to full fitness. Notably, Singo and winger Chikumbutso Salima are fresh from national team call-ups to the Malawi squad for next month’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
