Bullets complete signing of Paul Kansungwi

Nyasa Big Bullets have completed the signing of midfielder Paul Kansungwi from Red Lions.

The 22-year-old joins The People’s Team on a one-year contract after having a short stint with the Zomba-based military outfit.

He made nine TNM Super League appearances for Red Lions before the season was put on hold in January due to Covid-19.

A former Wizards FC player, Paul arrived at Bullets on trial in March and has been signed after impressing coach Kalisto Pasuwa, who has been searching for another creative central midfielder as cover for Mike Mkwate.

Pasuwa is delighted with his latest catch, saying Kansungwi will add depth to his squad.

“Remember we have been talking about depth in our central midfield and Paul is one boy who is bringing another dimension of central midfield as a number 8 or number 10.

“[He is] a very good boy in terms of going forward, splitting passes and also looking behind the defence. We welcome him and wish him well in his endeavors,” he told Bullets Media on Friday ahead of Saturday’s league encounter against Ekwendeni Hammers at Kamuzu Stadium.

Paul is part of the squad that Pasuwa has assembled for the home clash against the Northern Region side after he was cleared by his former team to play for Bullets.

In his first interview, the midfielder said: “It’s a very exciting moment for me. I have been longing for a club like Bullets, the biggest one in the land, champions and I must admit that it is just unbelievable that finally my dream has come to pass. I just want to get started. I am looking forward to helping the team retain the title and I will use every opportunity to take my game to the next level.”

Paul sees Bullets as a gateway to fulfilling his ambition of playing in major leagues beyond the borders of Malawi.

“It is always easier for a player to play in foreign leagues through Bullets, so I am very happy to have finally joined The People’s Team.”

Paul is the first Bullets signing in the ongoing transfer window, which closes on 30 May 2021.
