Ephraim Kondowe scored his first goal for FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in our 3-0 victory over Blue Eagles in the TNM Super League at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday.
The forward, who came in for Anthony Mfune in the 76th minute, scored our third goal with his first touch as he fired a left-footed strike past Eagles goalkeeper John Soko.
Bullets were already 2-0 up with goals from Yamikani Fodya and Hassan Kajoke as Kondowe came on but the 21-year-old’s celebration was enthusiastic after powering home in front of the home fans.
Kondowe, who joined The People’s Team as a free agent in March following his departure from rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, revealed the feeling of scoring for his new team was extraordinary because it eased the pressure having gone several games without finding the back of the net in the red shirt.
“It’s something I can’t explain. The feeling of scoring for my team was extraordinary because it removed pressure on me. I am a striker whose role is to score goals and sometimes when it’s not happening, the pressure becomes too much but with this goal, I am feeling okay and I am ready to continue going because it has given me the much-needed confidence,” he told Bullets Media.
On his celebration with Precious Sambani, before he was joined by other teammates, our no.33 said: “It was a special moment and you could see that my fellow players were very happy for me. The teamwork at Bullets is something else because no matter how bad things are, they push you and encourage you to keep on moving, so that’s exactly what happened. They celebrated with me because they knew I needed that. We are looking forward to moments like these.”
Kondowe further said he was looking forward to performing better as the battle for points intensifies in the top-flight league.
“I am looking forward to improving my game further than this. It wasn’t a good start for me since joining the team but slowly, the coach kept faith in me and when he told me to come in Sunday, I vowed to do it for the team and with my first touch, I scored.
“The confidence in me will keep on pushing for more, and I just want to go inside the field of play and deliver. There is no better feeling than scoring your first league goal in front of thousands of home fans,” he added.
The win on Sunday took Bullets top of the standings with 25 points, level with Silver Strikers, but Kalisto Pasuwa’s men have a superior goal difference.
