Airtel Top 8 new dates announced

Nyasa Big Bullets have learned dates for the first and second legs of the 2021 Airtel Top 8 Cup, which was scheduled to kick off this weekend but has been pushed to next week.

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) on Thursday announced the quarter-final fixtures involving teams that finished in the top eight of the 2020/21 TNM Super League.

League champions Bullets will set the competition rolling with a crash in the opening match on 6th November against MAFCO at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre before traveling to Chitowe for the second leg two weeks later.

Kalisto Pasuwa will be looking to win his first cup on top of the three consecutive league championships he has won after joining The People’s Team in 2018.

Pasuwa’s men regrouped on Monday after a break of one week in which the head coach said it was necessary to rest his players ahead of the new competition, which he is eager to win.

“It was important for them to rest as they have played too many games this season. Most of them have been complaining of fatigue, but after giving them a one week off, you could see the energy and the eagerness to fight for the ball when the training resumed on Monday and we are trying our level best to make them focus on the next competition which is the Airtel Cup.

“As Bullets we haven’t been doing well in cup competitions and we have been working on number of areas including penalties so that we are ready for the cup this time around,” Pasuwa told club media.

In other fixtures, Mighty Wanderers will host Moyale Barracks whilst Silver Strikers and Civil Sporting Club will play TN Stars and Karonga United, respectively.
