The Super League of Malawi has confirmed the team of match officials for Sunday’s highly anticipated TNM Super League Blantyre derby between FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium.
Leading the officiating team will be Mayamiko Kanjere, one of Malawi’s most experienced referees, supported by Pondamali Tembo and Evance Msonda on the lines. Zebron Lengani will serve as fourth official, while Moffat Champiti takes up the role of match assessor.
With both sides separated by just four points on the log, all eyes will also be on the officiating team tasked with managing one of the most intense fixtures in Malawian football.
Referee – Mayamiko Kanjere
Kanjere is one of Malawi’s seasoned referees, having officiated numerous high-profile fixtures, including several Blantyre derbies. His most recent involvement in the rivalry came in May 2024, when the two sides shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw—a match that also featured Tembo as first assistant referee and Champiti as match assessor.
Kanjere’s latest Bullets assignment came on 9 November 2024, when The People’s Team defeated Silver Strikers 1-0 to lift the Airtel Top 8 Cup at Bingu National Stadium, where Tembo again served as second assistant referee.
Sunday’s derby will mark Kanjere’s first involvement in a Bullets fixture this season across all competitions.
Assistant Referee 1 – Pondamali Tembo
Tembo, a familiar figure in Bullets matches, will be making his fifth appearance in charge of our games this season. He has already officiated in league fixtures against Mighty Tigers, Dedza Dynamos, and most recently Mafco FC on Tuesday, as well as during Airtel Top 8 Cup ties versus Creck Sporting Club and Silver Strikers.
Assistant Referee 2 – Evance Msonda
Another experienced official on the domestic scene, Msonda will handle his second Bullets fixture of the season after featuring in our Airtel Top 8 clash against Karonga United in June. Sunday’s match will be his fourth Bullets involvement since 2023.
Fourth Official – Zebron Lengani
Lengani takes up the fourth official role for the derby. A familiar face in Bullets fixtures, he has officiated several matches involving The People’s Team, both as a centre referee and fourth official. His most recent appearance came during Tuesday’s 3-0 TNM Super League win over Mafco FC at Kamuzu Stadium, where Bullets extended their winning streak to eight matches in all competitions.
This season, Lengani has handled three games as centre referee and two as fourth official, bringing valuable experience to this high-stakes encounter.
Match Assessor – Moffat Champiti
A retired referee and one of Malawi’s respected assessors, Champiti will oversee a Blantyre derby for the second time this season. He assessed officiating during our 1-0 first-round loss to Wanderers in May and also monitored our 1-0 home defeat to Blue Eagles in July.
