FCB Nyasa Big Bullets return to action on Sunday as they host fellow Blantyre side Ekhaya FC in a title-defining TNM Super League clash at Mpira Stadium.
The fixture marks Bullets’ first appearance at the 10,000-seater Mpira Stadium this season, adding extra significance to an already crucial contest.
With the title race intensifying, Peter Mponda’s men will be out to make a statement in front of their supporters, responding to midweek disappointment and piling pressure on rivals Mighty Wanderers, who will be hosting Civil Service United just 7 kilometres away at Kamuzu Stadium on the same afternoon.
FORM GUIDE
Bullets head into the clash second on the standings with 59 points, and their recent form has been mixed. The People’s Team recorded victories over Civil Service United (4-3), Kamuzu Barracks (2-0) and Karonga United (2-0), but suffered defeats against Creck Sporting (2-0) and Moyale Barracks (2-0) in their last five outings.
Ekhaya are seventh with 39 points from 27 matches and have also experienced varied results. The Blantyre-based side secured wins against Chitipa United (3-0) and Karonga United (1-0) before suffering defeats to Moyale Barracks (2-1), Mighty Wanderers (1-0) and Silver Strikers (1-0).
HEAD-TO-HEAD
This will be the third meeting between the two Blantyre rivals. The sides previously met in March during the preseason, when Bullets claimed the Sapitwa 4 Season Three championship thanks to Babatunde Adepoju’s late strike at Mulanje Park.
In the first-round TNM Super League fixture, Bullets also secured a 1-0 victory, with Adepoju again on the scoresheet in the 56th minute.
TEAM NEWS
Bullets will be without Blessings Mpokera, who remains on the sidelines after being ruled out for six weeks due to injury two weeks ago.
Chrispin Mapemba did not travel with the team for the two recent away fixtures against Karonga United and Moyale Barracks. He will be assessed further to determine his availability for selection against Ekhaya on Sunday.
The rest of the squad that travelled to the North is available, as Peter Mponda and his charges look to bounce back and get back on track in the chase for a historic 18th league title.
