Match Report: Bullets slip to Wanderers in the Blantyre derby

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets endured a tough afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday, falling 3-0 to city rivals Mighty Wanderers in the TNM Super League — a result that saw the visitors complete a rare league double over The People’s Team for the first time since 2015.

The hosts entered the derby aiming to strengthen their title charge but were undone by a first-half strike from Adam Wallace and a second-half brace from Blessings Singini.

Bright Start, But Wanderers Strike First

The Blantyre derby kicked off in front of a vibrant Kamuzu Stadium crowd, with both sides showing early intent and composure on the ball.

Bullets created the first real opportunity when Hassan Kajoke made a clever run after being picked out by Chawanangwa Gumbo, but his heavy touch allowed goalkeeper Dalitso Khungwa to gather.

However, against the run of play, Wanderers broke the deadlock midway through the first half. Substitute Adam Wallace — who had just replaced the injured Wisdom Mpinganjira — made an instant impact, capitalising on a defensive lapse to slot home past Innocent Nyasulu and hand the Nomads a 1-0 lead.

Bullets pushed for a quick equaliser, but the visitors’ defence, marshalled by Rajab Nyirenda and Emmanuel Nyirenda, held firm to frustrate the hosts. Before halftime, Aaron Chilipa produced a vital interception to deny Wallace a second from a swift counterattack.

The first half ended 1-0 in favour of Wanderers.

Bullets Push Forward but Trail Further

With everything still to play for, Bullets returned from the break determined to turn the tide. Head coach Peter Mponda introduced Babatunde Adepoju and Henry Chiwaya to inject more attacking firepower.

Bullets came close to levelling when Babatunde’s header narrowly missed the target. Moments later, Dan Kudonto rattled the upright with a fierce drive as Wanderers threatened to double their advantage.

Bullets responded with their best spell of the half — Chiwaya’s dangerous delivery found Mike Mkwate, whose shot was blocked before Aaron Chilipa’s rebound effort flew inches wide.

Just as Bullets began to find rhythm, the visitors doubled their lead in the 76th minute through Blessings Singini, whose powerful strike from distance beat Nyasulu. Seven minutes later, the same player added a second after capitalising on a defensive mix-up.

In the 86th minute, Wanderers introduced Clement Nyondo, Masiya Manda and Promise Kamwendo for Blessings Mwalilino, Adam Wallace and Rajab Nyirenda to close out the match.

Maule Keep Fighting Despite Setback

Despite late attacking changes, Bullets continued to push forward but couldn’t find a breakthrough. The result marked a rare league double for Wanderers — their first over The People’s Team since 2015 — as Bullets’ strong run in the league came to a pause in front of a packed Kamuzu Stadium.

Full-Time: FCB Nyasa Big Bullets 0–3 Mighty Wanderers

What It Means

The defeat narrows Bullets’ lead at the top of the TNM Super League standings to just one point.

The People’s Team remain on 49 points from 21 matches, while Mighty Wanderers climb to 48 points from 20 games with a match in hand.

Despite the result, The People’s Team will regroup and turn their focus to the FDH Bank Cup semifinal — another chance to respond in front of the Maule faithful.
