Maxwell Phodo came off the bench to score and assit Ephraim Kondowe as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets beat Ekhaya 2-0 in the TNM Super League

Maxwell Phodo on the 2-0 win over Ekhaya

Sunday’s Player of the Match, Maxwell Phodo, says hunger and a strong response powered FCB Nyasa Big Bullets to a 2-0 victory over Ekhaya FC, as The People’s Team bounced back from midweek disappointment in Mzuzu.

The result keeps Bullets second on the TNM Super League standings with 62 points from 28 matches. League leaders Mighty Wanderers remain top on 65 points from the same number of games, while third-placed Silver Strikers have 57 points with a game in hand after dropping points in a 1-1 draw away to Karonga United on Sunday.

“The game was good, and we really wanted to win,” Phodo told club media after the game. “Coming off a defeat against Moyale in Mzuzu, we knew we had to respond and get maximum points.”

The midfielder, who came off the bench to score and provide an assist before the break, said he was motivated to respond after a difficult outing in the North.

“The performance I showed in Mzuzu wasn’t good. I wanted to show the coach that I can contribute more, and I’m happy I delivered a strong performance in this game.”

Phodo also welcomed the intensity at the top of the table, saying competition among leading sides raises standards across the league.

“Being in a race like this, going toe to toe at the top, is good for Malawian football. When big teams compete, it raises the level for everyone.”

Looking ahead to the final stretch of the season, Phodo remains focused on the ultimate goal. “Anything can happen in a title race, but our focus is clear — winning [the championship].”
