FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women wingback Bernadetta Mkandawire featured for Malawi, who secured a historic qualification for the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Scorchers eliminated Angola 2-0 on aggregate on Tuesday afternoon at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
The Bullets defender played a key role in Lovemore Fazili’s side, helping maintain composure at the back as Malawi kept a clean sheet to seal progression to the continental finals.
Sweden-based forward Faith Chinzimu scored twice late in the game to inspire Malawi to victory, completing the job after the first leg had ended 0-0 in Luanda last week.
Mkandawire’s club teammate Lyna James was not part of the matchday squad, but the two Maule Ladies have been part of the national team setup throughout the qualifying campaign, representing The People’s Team with pride.
The Scorchers’ qualification marks another major milestone for Malawian women’s football and comes just months after Mkandawire and James helped Bullets Women enjoy a strong first half of the NBM Women’s Premiership season.
