Mponda: Frustrating after dominating again

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Peter Mponda described Thursday’s goalless draw against Blue Eagles in the TNM Super League at Nankhaka Stadium as frustrating, admitting his side once again dominated but failed to find the finishing touch.

The People’s Team created numerous chances but, for the third consecutive match, could not find the back of the net.

Reacting to the scoreless encounter, Mponda told journalists after the final whistle that it was difficult to accept the result, given how much control his side had throughout the contest.

“Very frustrated with the result. The performance was very good. The way we played today, I had a strong belief that we were supposed to grab all the points. Unfortunately, we didn’t take the chances we created, and that’s why I’m very frustrated,” he said.

The Bullets coach expressed concern over his team’s inability to turn dominance into victories in recent fixtures.

“I don’t think the only frustrated people are the supporters. I’m frustrated, and the players are more frustrated than everyone else. It’s a concern. The way we are playing, the results are not coming,” he said.

He pointed to last weekend’s defeat to Mighty Wanderers as another reminder of how missed chances continue to hurt the team’s progress.

“Last weekend, we played well against Wanderers but ended up on the losing side. We had a good game but couldn’t convert our chances. It’s a very big concern to me as a coach,” he said.

“I’m feeling sorry for the boys who did everything to win. How do I bring them back? Today, we had a good game but are returning to Blantyre with nothing. It’s two points dropped rather than a point gained,” he added.

When asked what the result means for the title race, Mponda insisted it changes nothing and maintained that there are still many games to fight for.

“It doesn’t mean anything because we still have plenty of games to play for,” he concluded.

The People’s Team will use the Men’s FIFA international break to regroup and prepare for the resumption of TNM Super League action later this month.
