Head coach Peter Mponda hailed FCB Nyasa Big Bullets’ impressive first-half performance and praised his players’ resilience as The People’s Team advanced to the FDH Bank Cup semifinals with a 2-1 win over Kamuzu Barracks at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The victory, inspired by first-half goals from Ephraim Kondowe and Hassan Kajoke, saw Bullets overcome a response from the visitors to seal a well-deserved place in the last four of the competition.
Proud of a Dominant First Half
Mponda was full of praise for his players’ attacking intent and composure in the opening period, describing the first-half display as “brilliant” and a true reflection of the team’s identity.
“In the first half, we dominated the play and created several good chances. Our performance was brilliant, and the way we controlled possession allowed us to create opportunities and score goals towards the end of the half,” said the Bullets gaffer.
“I believed that, with the way we were playing, our opponents would struggle to cope with our game. The boys executed our plan perfectly, moved the ball with confidence, and took control of every department on the pitch.”
Admits Second-Half Challenges
The head coach acknowledged that the second half presented a tougher challenge as Kamuzu Barracks increased their intensity, but he was proud of how his charges stood up to the physical battle.
“In the second half, we faced some challenges. Kamuzu Barracks came out stronger, played physically, and managed to create a few chances of their own,” he admitted.
“While we struggled a bit, I am proud of how our players fought and showed resilience throughout the match. It wasn’t easy, but their commitment and teamwork helped us protect the lead and get the job done.”
Focus Turns to Improvement and Next Fixture
Mponda also highlighted the need for continued improvement, especially in maintaining consistency throughout both halves of play.
“We will go back, review where we fell short—especially in the second half—and work on improving. Overall, it was a good game, and we are happy with the determination the team showed,” he added.
“Now, it’s time to enjoy this win and start focusing on our next game. We have to keep pushing and building on this momentum as we return to league action.”
What’s Next
Following Saturday’s triumph, The People’s Team will shift their focus to the TNM Super League, where they face Mafco FC at Kamuzu Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
Bullets will be aiming to extend their unbeaten run across all competitions and maintain the positive rhythm as the season enters its decisive stage.
