Munthali hails Bullets’ character after 5–0 win over Liberty

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves head coach Heston Munthali hailed his team’s character and clinical edge after the young Maule produced a commanding 5–0 victory over Liberty FC in the ThumbsUp Southern Region Football League at Mpira Stadium on Monday afternoon.

The goals came from Hadji Steven, who bagged a brace, with Kondwani Tebulo, Kondwani Mhone, and Mischek Billiat also getting on the scoresheet as the youthful Bullets side delivered one of their most complete performances of the season.

The result came just a week after the young Maule fell 2–0 away to Nsanje United, and it proved the perfect response — a statement of intent as the second round of the campaign gathers pace.

“First, let me thank the boys for the hard work they have shown today. We were coming off a loss to Nsanje United, but we told the players to forget about that result and focus on this game,” said Munthali.

Munthali revealed that the Reserves entered the match with a clear plan to start fast and unsettle their hosts early — a tactic that paid off brilliantly.

“In the first round, we drew against Liberty, but our plan today was to find quick goals — and we achieved that, leading within the first 15 minutes,” he explained.

“In the first half, we lost possession too often, but in the second half, with some tactical changes, we started controlling the game. We played on the counterattack, and all the goals we scored in the second half came from those moves.”

Confidence and Consistency

Munthali, who continues to guide one of the youngest sides in the league, believes the emphatic result will inject confidence and belief into his squad as they build toward the remainder of the season.

“This win gives the boys a big confidence boost,” he said. “They’re still very young, and we’ll keep encouraging them to work hard.”

“This week’s training paid off as we finally turned our dominance into goals. Now we’ll return to training, polish a few areas, and shift focus to the next challenge.”

The emphatic win lifts Bullets Reserves to third place in the ThumbsUp Southern Region Football League with 39 points, five behind leaders Chilobwe United.

With momentum back on their side, the young Maule will look to build on this performance as the second round continues.
