FCB Nyasa Big Bullets goalkeeper Innocent Nyasulu has been named the Goalkeeper of the Tournament in the 2025/26 Castel Challenge Cup after playing a key role in The People’s Team’s triumphant run to the trophy.
Nyasulu received the individual honour during the FAM Awards ceremony held on Friday evening at Comesa Hall in Blantyre.
He beat competition from Dedza Dynamos goalkeeper Donex Mwakasinga and Blue Eagles shot-stopper Precious Masamba to claim the accolade.
The shot-stopper played a key role in Bullets’ successful cup campaign, keeping three clean sheets in five matches as The People’s Team went on to reclaim the Castel Challenge Cup.
Nyasulu conceded just two goals throughout the competition — one in the Round of 16 against Ndirande Stars and the other in the final against Goshen City Dedza Dynamos.
He also produced several important saves during the competition to keep Bullets in control at key moments of the knockout rounds.
It is Nyasulu’s first individual award since joining Bullets from Mighty Tigers in 2024, when he won the TNM Super League Golden Glove.
Nyasulu became Bullets’ first-choice goalkeeper during the 2025/26 season under former head coach Peter Mponda and retained his place in goal under current interim head coach Gilbert Chirwa, who took charge following Mponda’s departure in December.
Bullets reclaimed the Castel Challenge Cup after first winning the inaugural edition in 2023 before surrendering it in 2024 when they were eliminated in the semifinals by Mzuzu City Hammers — a side Gilbert Chirwa’s men overcame at the same stage this season.
Speaking to club media, Nyasulu credited his teammates and the technical panel for the recognition.
“This award belongs to the whole team. I thank my teammates and the technical panel because we pushed together throughout a difficult season and managed to win two domestic trophies.”
Bullets enjoyed a strong showing at the FAM Awards, claiming four individual accolades on the night.
Maxwell Phodo led the way with two awards — Player of the Tournament and the Golden Boot in the Castel Challenge Cup — while Nyasulu claimed the Goalkeeper of the Tournament honour.
Former Bullets forward Babatunde Adepoju also claimed the Golden Boot in the FDH Bank Cup after scoring four goals in the competition, where Bullets reached the semifinals.
Winger Chikumbutso Salima scooped the biggest prize, the 2025 Player of the Year award, and was also named in the 2025 FAM Men’s Best XI following a standout campaign before joining Sudanese side Al-Merreikh.
