Oscar Petro has been crowned the FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves HTD Player of the Month for August, an accolade voted for by his fellow players and the technical team in recognition of his consistency and influence in midfield during a challenging run of results.
In August, the Reserves faced two fixtures, going down 2-0 to city rivals Mighty Wanderers Reserves before battling to a goalless draw with Liberty FC. While the team struggled in front of goal, Petro stood out for his composure, vision, and ability to dictate the tempo in the middle of the park.
As a deep-lying playmaker, Petro broke up opposition attacks and recycled possession with efficiency, serving as the vital link between defense and attack. His intelligent reading of the game, precise passing, and tireless work ethic helped stabilize the team in both matches, ensuring the Reserves remained competitive.
His performances have also been key in guiding the Bullets Reserves to close the first round of the ThumbsUp Southern Region Football League in third position with 28 points, just six points behind leaders Ekhaya Reserves. Petro’s maturity and leadership qualities continue to shine, making him one of the most dependable players in Heston Munthali’s squad.
Petro becomes only the second recipient of the HTD Limited-sponsored award, following in the footsteps of fellow midfielder Kondwani Mhone, who won it in July.
Heading into the second round, the Reserves will look to build on Petro’s fine form as they aim for stronger results in the intensifying title race.
