FCB Nyasa Big Bullets forward Maxwell Phodo capped a sensational Castel Challenge Cup campaign by finishing as the tournament’s top scorer with seven goals, helping the club lift the trophy.
His seven-goal haul included a hat-trick against Songwe Border United and braces against Ndirande Stars and Mighty Tigers in the Round of 32, Round of 16, and quarterfinals.
“Winning the cup and finishing as top scorer is a moment I will always cherish—for me and all Bullets fans,” he told club media after Saturday’s match at the Bingu National Stadium.
The People’s Team advanced through the semifinals and secured victory in the final against Goshen City Dedza Dynamos through Hassan Kajoke’s brace, showcasing the team’s attacking firepower and teamwork.
Though not at his peak in the last two matches, the forward’s presence and leadership helped guide the team to victory.
“Yes, I didn’t do well in the last two games, but what matters most is that the team won the cup,” he added.
He reserved special praise for teammate Yamikani Mologeni, highlighting their partnership and shared determination to deliver silverware. The fullback contributed six assists in the competition, including four to the striker’s goals.
“Yamikani is a very good player. We sat down and discussed what we could do to help the team win this cup because the supporters were eager to see us lift it. I thank him for his assists and support that helped me score goals,” Phodo shared.
Reflecting on the season, the forward added:
“This season was really tough with a lot of ups and downs, but in the end we managed to win two trophies. That shows the character of the team.”
He said the Golden Boot and the Castel Challenge Cup triumph motivate him for the season ahead:
“The secret was working hard and praising God. This award motivates me as we prepare for the new season, and I am proud of what we have achieved this campaign.”
With seven goals in the tournament and another medal added to the club’s cabinet, his contributions proved instrumental in Bullets’ trophy-winning journey.
“This is a moment I will always remember,” he concluded.
The forward’s achievements cap a season where Bullets continued to assert themselves as Malawi’s leading club, winning the club’s 38th major trophy and securing a second piece of silverware in the 2025/26 season.
