FCB Nyasa Big Bullets return to Kamuzu Stadium on Wednesday afternoon for a highly anticipated TNM Super League fixture against league newcomers Ekhaya FC.
This encounter comes at the tail end of a demanding stretch for The People’s Team, who have played three matches in just seven days — including two consecutive away trips to Lilongwe for the Airtel Top 8 Cup semifinal against Karonga United and Sunday’s FCB 30th anniversary celebratory clash against Silver Strikers.
With just a one-point lead over rivals Mighty Wanderers, who are also in action on Wednesday against Songwe Border United, Peter Mponda’s men will be aiming for a vital win to retain top spot on the table.
FORM GUIDE
Bullets come into the midweek clash following a 2-0 defeat to Silver Strikers in a special fixture played at Bingu National Stadium. Prior to that, they recorded a 3-0 TNM Super League win over Moyale Barracks at the same venue and edged Karonga United 2-1 in the Airtel Top 8 semifinal to advance to yet another final in the competition.
Mponda’s side also secured a 2-0 victory over Mighty Tigers earlier in the league campaign. Impressively, in their last three competitive outings, the defending champions have only conceded once — keeping back-to-back clean sheets in their league fixtures.
Currently, Bullets sit atop the TNM Super League standings with 24 points from nine games, having won eight and drawn one, while scoring 25 goals — the highest tally in the division so far.
Ekhaya FC, under Enos Chatama, continue to impress in their debut Super League season. They currently occupy third place with 20 points from 10 matches, just four points behind Bullets. They head into Wednesday’s clash following a goalless draw away to Dedza Dynamos, which came after back-to-back wins over Mzuzu City Hammers (3-0) and Creck Sporting Club (1-0).
Though not prolific in front of goal, Ekhaya have netted 11 times and boast one of the best defensive records in the league, having conceded just four goals — the fewest in the division. They have picked up six wins, drawn two, and lost two matches.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
This will be the first-ever TNM Super League meeting between FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Ekhaya FC. However, the two sides previously met in the Sapitwa Four Bonanza held prior to the start of the 2025 season, where Bullets claimed a narrow 1-0 victory courtesy of a late strike from Babatunde Adepoju — who currently leads the league’s scoring charts with six goals.
TEAM NEWS
Defender Andrew Jovinala will face a late fitness test after sustaining a knock during Sunday’s match against Silver Strikers. Wingback Chrispin Mapemba remains sidelined as he continues to recover from a long-term injury.
Head coach Peter Mponda confirmed in his pre-match press conference that new recruit Paul Master could make his competitive league debut after impressing in Sunday’s FCB @ 30 celebratory fixture against Silver Strikers — a sign that all other players are fit and available for selection.
FROM THE COACH
“Ekhaya are doing very well and they’re coached by a good tactician. They’ve got young players with energy, and defensively, they are organised. It won’t be an easy game, but we are prepared for the challenge.” — Peter Mponda, Head Coach
