TNM Super League Preview: Bullets vs. Tigers

Our chase for TNM Super League glory this season resumes this Sunday, with a high-stakes home clash against Mighty Tigers at Kamuzu Stadium.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets return from the international break with one mission: to bounce back from our derby defeat and maintain control at the top of the standings, with just two points separating Bullets from Wanderers.

Peter Mponda’s men will be determined to respond following a narrow 1-0 loss to rivals Mighty Wanderers — their first defeat of the season. But they face a familiar challenge in a Tigers side that has consistently proven to be a tough opponent over the years.

FORM GUIDE

Before the international break, Bullets had made a strong start to the 2025 campaign with six wins in seven games, including victories over Silver Strikers, Creck Sporting Club, Dedza Dynamos, Chitipa United, and Kamuzu Barracks.

The only setback came in the form of the derby defeat to Wanderers at the Kamuzu Stadium earlier this month, which ended the team’s unbeaten start to the season.

We go into the next match sitting top of the Super League table with 18 points, two ahead of the Nomads in second place.

Tigers, currently 10th on the log with 10 points from 8 matches, drew 1-1 with Moyale Barracks in their most recent outing. Prior to that, they picked up wins against Chitipa United, Karonga United, and Dedza Dynamos, while suffering defeats to Ekhaya FC, Wanderers, Creck, and Blue Eagles.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Sunday’s match will be the first meeting between Bullets and Tigers in the current Super League season.

Over the past 15 years, the two sides have faced off 30 times in the top flight. The 17-time champions boast a dominant record, winning 19 matches, drawing 10, and losing only once — scoring 48 goals and conceding 16 in the process.

The last time Tigers beat Bullets was in November 2011, a 3-0 win. Since then, the Kau Kau Boys have struggled against The People’s Team.

In the 2024 campaign, Bullets were held to a goalless draw by Tigers in the first round before running out 3-0 winners in the return fixture, both matches played at Kamuzu Stadium.

TEAM NEWS

We will be without Yankho Singo and Chikumbutso Salima, who both picked up injuries while on international duty with the Malawi National Team at the Hollywoodbets COSAFA Cup in South Africa. Clyde Senaji and Hassan Kajoke are also not available for Sunday’s action.

There’s good news for Maule as Peter Banda is back in training following a long injury layoff. The attacking midfielder is still under observation and according to Mponda, “he not be rushed back into action”.
