FCB Nyasa Big Bullets on Wednesday wrapped up a perfect Northern Region outing in style, bagging six crucial league points and marching into the FDH Bank Cup Round of 16.
First assistant coach Gilbert Chirwa, speaking on behalf of head coach Peter Mponda, hailed the players’ resilience, character, and fighting spirit after a statement 3-1 comeback victory over Songwe Border United in Karonga.
“A Successful Journey for Maule”
Reflecting on the two-week tour, Chirwa praised the team’s mentality and performance across all three fixtures.
“This has been a successful journey for us here in the North,” Chirwa said. “We started with a cup game against Chilumba Barracks, winning 5-0. Afterwards, we beat Chitipa United 2-0, and today we managed to come from behind to win 3-1 over Songwe Border United. That takes character, and the boys delivered brilliantly.”
Babatunde’s Brace and Salima’s Spark
Trailing 1-0 with less than four minutes left in the first half against the bottom-placed Songwe, Bullets hit back instantly through Babatunde Adepoju’s header.
The Nigerian striker then completed his brace early in the second half before Chikumbutso Salima sealed the win with a stunning finish, wrapping up a powerful away performance.
“We encouraged the boys to push harder, and they responded in style,” Chirwa noted. “The second-half display was excellent. They played as a team, created chances, and scored three big goals — that’s the Bullets spirit.”
