FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves endured their first setback of the season, falling 3-0 to Ekhaya Reserves at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday morning.
The young Bullets found themselves trailing by two goals at halftime, and the visitors sealed the win with a third goal in the final 15 minutes, bringing an end to our unbeaten run. Prior to this match, Munthali’s squad had avoided defeat in their first three games of the campaign.
In response to the loss, Munthali—who took charge as Bullets Reserves head coach in February—expressed his disappointment but remained positive about the team’s performance and progress.
“Yes, we really suffered our first defeat, but there were plenty of positives to take away from the match. We allowed two goals that, with better defending, we could have prevented, but that’s the nature of football—these moments are inevitable. Despite the scoreline, I appreciated the determination the boys showed; I could see them attempting to put our training work into action,” remarked the former Bullets striker.
Munthali highlighted the impact of conceding early: “We conceded within the first 15 minutes, and that put pressure on us to find an equalizer, which led to some rushed decisions and mistakes. But credit to the boys—they regrouped, started playing our style of football, and created many chances. Unfortunately, we just weren’t clinical enough in front of goal.”
Looking ahead, Munthali stressed the necessity of growth: “We’ll head back to training to address the mistakes. It’s crucial that we continue to encourage the boys—setbacks like this are part of the process, and I have full faith that we’ll bounce back and regain our momentum.”
