The Bullets Reserves coach took plenty of positives from Sunday’s goalless draw against Chiradzulu United, praising his players’ application and describing the away point as another valuable step in their development.
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves head coach Henry Kabichi believes his side will emerge stronger after another encouraging display in Sunday’s SRFA FINCA Division One League encounter against Chiradzulu United at Nkhwayi Ground.
Playing their first league match in two weeks, Bullets adapted well to the challenging conditions, controlling large spells of the contest and creating the better openings.
However, a combination of resolute defending from the hosts and a lack of cutting edge in the final third denied them maximum points.
Kabichi admitted his side did not create enough clear-cut opportunities to fully capitalise on their dominance.
He believes, however, that the performance offered valuable lessons as the campaign continues.
“It was a good game, but we didn’t create many chances in the way we played. That’s football; matches are different from one another and from this match we have learned something from it,” said Kabichi.
The former Bullets midfielder also emphasised the importance of exposing his players to different playing conditions.
He insisted that such experiences are essential to their growth and development.
“We just need to keep encouraging the boys to play at any ground because in Malawi we don’t have many grounds. We can’t rely only on Kamuzu Stadium or Mpira Stadium. For the development of their game, they need to be playing on grounds like these.”
Kabichi felt his players’ determination to force a late winner contributed to a number of misplaced passes during the closing stages.
He viewed it as part of the learning process for a developing side.
“We were looking for a goal and that’s why we had many misplaced passes, but that’s part of the game. You can’t be winning all the time.”
Despite missing out on all three points, the Bullets coach was satisfied with the application shown by his players.
He felt the away point reflected the effort and commitment they showed throughout the afternoon.
“We will prepare for the next game as usual. Taking a point away from home is a good thing and we just need to thank the boys because they did a good job to get that point.”
