Match report: Bullets 4-1 Creck Sporting

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets continued the flawless start to the 2025 TNM Super League season with a dominant 4-1 victory over Creck Sporting Club on Wednesday afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium.

This clash came just three days after the two sides had battled to a scoreless stalemate in the Airtel Top 8 quarterfinal first leg at the same ground, a match Bullets held the upper hand but struggled to break the visitors’ defensive line throughout.

However, on Wednesday, with a substantial crowd in attendance, Peter Mponda’s side showed no mercy, making it two wins out of two in the new league campaign.

We took a 2-0 lead into halftime thanks to well-executed goals from Wongani Lungu and Babatunde Adepoju. Returning for the final period, Chikumbutso Salima and Yamikani Mologeni extended our advantage. The visitors found the net during stoppage time, handing us our first conceded goal of the 2025 league campaign.

The opening half

Mponda had shuffled his line-up, restoring Mologeni and Adepoju to the starting eleven in place of Hassan Kajoke and Henry Chiwaya.

Mike Mkwate also returned for his first start since recovering from a severe injury.

The first real chance of the day fell to the visitors from a set-piece after Salima conceded a foul. Hadji Wali swung the ball into the box, but Mologeni was well-positioned to clear the danger.

Yet Creck Sporting regained possession, and Bayo Fatayo whipped in another cross, finding George Chaomba, whose attempt was delivered straight at our goalkeeper Innocent Nyasulu.

After ten minutes, it was Bullets’ turn to threaten. Molegeni’s cross located an unmarked Babatunde in the six-yard area, but his header shaved past the post by the narrowest of margins.

Joseph Kamwendo’s men again deployed the defensive tactics that frustrated us in the Airtel Top 8 on Saturday, but Wali, a former Bullets defender, struggled to contain the lively Salima on the flank.

Salima’s pace paid dividends in the 19th minute as he burst past Wali and from the byline, delivered an inch-perfect pass to Lungu, who finished from close range to put Bullets 1-0 ahead.

That opener forced the visitors into a more attacking shape, and for the next ten minutes, they pushed forward in search of an equalizer.

Sensing vulnerability in midfield, Mponda introduced Frank Willard for Yankho Singo, who had been leaving space for Creck to exploit.

Chaomba and Fatayo both forced saves from the birthday boy Nyasulu as the visiting team pressed, but the Bullets goalkeeper stood firm with confident stops.

In the 33rd minute, Peter Godfrey’s first-time effort for Creck agonizingly missed the goal, brushing past Nyasulu’s right post.

Soon after, Brighton Munthali denied Bullets a second, saving from Lungu after another dangerous delivery by Salima.

Bullets couldn’t be held off for long. In the 40th minute, Mkwate sliced through Creck’s defence to slide a pass to Babatunde, who calmly finished past Munthali to double the lead.

Kamwendo responded by introducing Stain Patrick and Hassan Hussein for Patrick Mupanzi and Ademola Ajibola, hoping to strengthen Creck’s attack.

The final half

After the break, Mponda substituted Mkwate for Chawanangwa Gumbo.

Bullets wasted no time after the restart, extending our lead seven minutes into the half. Gumbo, Mpokera, and Molegeni combined neatly, releasing Lungu on the right and the attacking midfielder cut the ball back perfectly for Salima, who rifled it past Munthali, 3-0.

Encouraged by the lead, Bullets attacked relentlessly, with Munthali subjected to a barrage of crosses from Salima and Mologeni as they piled pressure on their Lilongwe-based opponents.

Their persistence paid off once more in the 57th minute. Chaomba lost the ball to Mpokera, who quickly switched play to Salima on the left. The pacey attacker beat Wali yet again and delivered another inviting low cross, this time finding an unmarked Mologeni, who tapped into an empty net, 4-0.

Bullets made changes, bringing on Hassan Kajoke and Maxwell Phodo for Babatunde and Lloyd Aaron.

Still hungry for more, the hosts nearly made it five in the 68th minute, as Gumbo weaved past three defenders, but lost possession at the crucial moment with Munthali already beaten.

We made our final substitution in the 73rd minute after Salima suffered a head cut, introducing Sean McBrams for the youngster’s first league appearance of the campaign.

Creck were given a lifeline in the 76th minute when referee Gift Chicco awarded them a free kick just outside the penalty area, but Frank Phiri’s effort was straight at Nyasulu.

In the final ten minutes, McBrams created two promising openings but fired wide from close distance.

In stoppage time, Creck Sporting grabbed a consolation goal when Kondwani Chilembwe capitalized on a midfield error to make it 4-1.

At the final whistle, Mponda’s men celebrated a second consecutive league victory, beginning the season on an emphatic note.

What it means

With this result, Bullets sit atop the standings on six points—level with Mighty Wanderers, Ekhaya FC, Moyale Barracks, and Karonga United—but hold the advantage on goal difference, having scored five and conceded just one.

Looking ahead

Bullets will be back at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday to face Songwe Border United on matchday 3 and our second match of this league campaign at home.
