Wasteful FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves were defeated 3-1 on post-match penalties against Mighty Wanderers Reserves in the Champions Cup Bonanza at the Champions Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
There was nothing to separate the two sides at the end of normal time as the famous mini-Blantyre derby finished goalless.
What happened
Enos Chatama’s boys dominated from the first whistle and, in terms of chance creation, it was them who did the most but their wastefulness in front of goal allowed the embattled Nomads to go for the halftime break somehow with a clean sheet.
Come the second half, the Nomads made five changes to twist the narrative of the tie as they looked to cause us problems with their expansive football.
Trying to reclaim our dominance over the Nomads, Chatama made a single change late in the second half but the clock ran down quickly to full-time.
What was a game of two halves ended 0-0 in normal time, 3-1 on penalties in favour of the Nomads.
What it means
The defeat against their rivals means the young Bullets missed an opportunity to reach the final of the bonanza and win their first silverware in 2024 as they gear up for the new season.
For Bob Mpinganjira’s side, the result sent them through to the final where they will face Ekhaya United, who beat Kalembelembe FC 2-1 earlier on Saturday.
Chatama post Wanderers
“It was a good game, we played very well. Throughout the game, Wanderers had one shot on target, we created a lot of chances but we did not use them. We have lost the game, this was more or less like a charity shield.
“Sometimes you can lose in the community shield and do better in the league. We had to face Wanderers today and we will meet them again in Blantyre in the league.
“Today we created more than 10 chances and when a team creates such many chances believe that one day it will score. We should wish our opponents well and give them congrats. We are going to meet them in the league and there is a lot of football to look for.”
