Reserves: Bullets return to Kamuzu for Thondwe test

After a demanding run of six consecutive away fixtures, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves will finally return to their home turf this Saturday when they welcome Thondwe FC to Kamuzu Stadium in a crucial ThumbsUp Southern Region Football League encounter.

The young People’s Team will be eager to make their homecoming count as they continue their push for a top-two spot on the league table. A victory on Saturday would not only strengthen their position in the standings but also boost confidence as the campaign enters its decisive stages.

FORM GUIDE

The Reserves come into Saturday’s clash in encouraging form, having lost just once in their last seven matches. During that period, the young Maule have collected three wins and three draws, including a commanding 5-0 victory over Liberty FC and last weekend’s 1-1 draw away to Mwanza Stars.

Heston Munthali’s charges have shown improvement both in structure and consistency, controlling large spells of possession and creating chances with confidence. The focus now shifts to turning those opportunities into goals as they look to make their homecoming count at Kamuzu Stadium.

Their visitors, Thondwe FC, also arrive in solid form. They have won four of their last six matches in all competitions, showing sharpness in attack and resilience at the back.

Thondwe’s recent run includes victories over FOMO Reserves (1-0), Tigers Reserves (3-0), Ntopwa (2-0), and Nyambadwe (2-1). Their only setbacks came in a 3-2 Castel Challenge Cup loss to Nsanje United and a narrow 1-0 defeat to Chilobwe United in their most recent outing.

That impressive sequence has lifted them into fifth position on the ThumbsUp Southern Region Football League table, making Saturday’s encounter an evenly poised battle between two sides aiming to keep their upward momentum alive.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

The two sides meet for the second time this season following their first encounter in the opening round of the 2025 ThumbsUp Southern Region Football League campaign.

In that fixture, Bullets Reserves produced a commanding display to defeat Thondwe FC 3-0 — a result that will serve as a confidence booster as they aim to complete a league double over the visitors this weekend.

COACH’S THOUGHTS

Head coach Heston Munthali has emphasized the importance of capitalizing on home advantage as his team looks to convert strong performances into consistent results.

“We’ve been performing well away from home, showing great spirit and consistency. Now that we’re back at Kamuzu Stadium, we want to capitalize on home advantage and deliver a strong performance for our fans,” he said ahead of the match.

TEAM NEWS

Bullets Reserves are expected to field a strong squad, with attacking trio Hadji Steven, Misheck Billiat, and Enos Henderman all available and in fine form.

Midfielder Brian Mwase, who has settled well since his promotion from the U19 side, is also expected to play a key role in controlling the tempo, while captain Mussah Bwanali will once again marshal the backline.
