Nyasa Big Bullets are just four games away from matching Mighty Mukuru Wanderers’ record of most wins in a season after The People’s Team registered their 16th TNM Super League win of the season on Sunday, hammering TN Stars 8-0 at Kamuzu Stadium.
In their title-winning campaign in 2017, Wanderers registered 21 wins from 30 games to clinch the Super League championship with 69 points, two points above Bullets who had 20 wins from the same number of games.
But with ten more games to play in the current season, the defending champions, who have 52 points from 20 games, will match Wanderers’ record of 21 wins if they win their next games and they will do this in style with five more games left to play.
The win on Sunday saw Kalisto Pasuwa’s men maintaining their unbeaten run to 20 games.
At this stage last season, Bullets were top of the log table with 42 points, scoring 39 goals and conceding 12.
The latest win sees them scoring 17 goals in five Super League matches and 49 goals in total, ten more goals than what they scored in the 2020/21 season after playing 20 games.
The log leaders, who have six more Super League games at home and four to play away, have an opportunity to register more wins and surpass last season’s tally of 62 points.
With 52 points already in the bag, four wins out of the remaining games will see them amassing 64 points heading to the last six games of the top flight league.
The current 49 goals also surpass the Nomads’ record of 46 goals scored after 30 games, which saw them ending their 11-year wait for the championship.
Bullets’ current number of goals is the most ever scored by a team in a calendar year in the TNM Super League era.
