Bullets Women vs DD Sunshine: Game of the Week?

Share

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women will this weekend be on the road for their lip-smacking FAM Women’s Football National Championship Group A fixture away to leaders DD Sunshine at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.

It promises to be a top-of-the-table thriller as the Bullets ladies, winners of the championship last term, will come face to face with the 2021 runners-up, who will be looking for reprisal having succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Maggie Chombo’s side to surrender their five-year dominance.

Champions of the south, Bullets made sure they were off to a bright start in Group A when they claimed a 2-0 victory over Destiny Academy at the Mpira Stadium on 11 March.

Saturday’s opponents are also a side relishing an impeccable start to the Group A campaign as they have managed to win all of their two opening matches to be top of the group with six points as Bullets come second with three points from a single match.

The two teams boast quite a horde of super talent which is likely to light up the Saturday showdown. Our second leading goal-scorer, Vanessa Chikupila, and her striking partner, Tendai Sani, starred the day for Maule earlier this month to hand us a victory.

DD Sunshine had to rely on Ireen Khumalo and Gladys Kandodo Banda, to trash Topik 4-0 at Civo Stadium on 12 March. The same players, plus Chisomo Banda, contributed a goal each for their team against CY Sisters.

Bullets Women, formerly known as Blantyre Zero, were crowned last year’s National Championship winners at the same venue in a finale against DD Sunshine, who are set to become Silver Strikers Women once their acquisition is completed.

Given that Chombo’s ladies raided the DD Sunshine with a 3-1 victory last time out, the capital city outfit will surely be eager to reverse the course of glory this time around. With everything at stake, Bullets Women up against DD Sunshine on Saturday has the hallmarks to be the game of the weekend in Women’s National Championship football.

A win for Bullets ladies this weekend will leave the two teams tied on six points while victory for DD Sunshine will see the Lilongwe giants opening a three-point gap at the top of the standings, with our women’s side having a game in hand.

In another Group A fixture, the Mzuzu derby will be another encounter to watch on Sunday at the Mzuzu Stadium where Topik will face CY Sisters. Both sides will be hunting for their first win in the group stages having lost to our Saturday opponents in their opening matches.

How they stand

DD Sunshine are topping Group A with six points from two games, scoring seven goals and are not only strong in attack but in defence as well as they are yet to concede.

Second in the standings with three points, the Bullets Women have scored two goals from a single match and are also yet to concede.

Destiny Academy are in third position on the table despite losing their opening game against Bullets but are above the fourth-placed CY Sisters and Topik, who are fifth, having conceded two goals and registered none. The Mzuzu sides, who are also yet to score, have conceded three and four goals, respectively.
