Bullets set new record with 41 points in 1st round

Share

Bullets have set a new record for the points accumulated in the first round of TNM Super League after finishing top of the standings with 41 points from 15 games.

Before the new season, cross-town rivals, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, were the only side with the highest number of points by the end of the first round, with 36 points set in 2017 in which they won the league.

But The People’s Team, chasing a 16th league championship, has broken the record after amassing 41 out of the possible 45 points with 13 wins and two draws, 11 points ahead of second-placed Blue Eagles who are yet to play their last game of the first round.

Kalisto Pasuwa’s side has also set a new record of nine consecutive wins in the league, beating our own record of seven games set in the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

Before the 2022 season, the highest number of points accumulated in the first 15 games was 35 and the team did this twice between the 2015 and 2018 seasons, winning the league on both occasions.

With these new records set, the onus will be on Kalisto Pasuwa’s side to maintain this perfect start going into the second round and possibly strive to defend the title unbeaten as the Zimbabwean coach eyes his fourth successive championship.

From the 13 wins, Bullets scored 28 goals and conceded six, with only one game against Karonga United ending goalless.

We became the only team to find the net five times against an opponent after hammering Mighty Tigers 5-0 at the Kamuzu Stadium last month.

If we retain the title, it will be our fourth straight league and sixth in the last eight years, taking our tally to 16 league trophies.

Congratulations to Kalisto, his backroom staff and the players on yet another remarkable milestone.
