Nyasa Big Bullets Women return to competitive action following a two-week break when they face Evirom in the Southern Region FAM Women’s League at the BAT Ground on Monday.
The game was scheduled for Saturday 17th September, but due to “some unforeseen circumstances”, the two Blantyre sides will face off 72 hours later in a game Bullets Women will be looking for a win as they aim to reclaim the top spot in the standings.
Our women took a break from competitive football after contributing six players to the Malawi women’s national team that was at the Cosafa Women’s Championship which finished on Sunday in South Africa.
The Maggie Chombo Sadik side, which has played three games, with Sunday’s opponents playing a total of six games so far, is third in the standings with 9 points, displaced from the first position after missing three games. Currently, Ntopwa are top of the table with 15 points from five games.
Before the break Bullets Women were impressive, starting the 2022 campaign with three straight wins and scoring 45 goals while conceding only one.
While the break might be perceived as a backslide, needing to play two games to catch up with the two teams above them, Ntopwa and Evirom, who have both played five games, assistant coach Charles Lubani believes it was a blessing in disguise as it gave some of his players time to recover from injuries.
“We had Zainab Kapanda and Asiyatu George out with injuries, but the break helped in a way for them to recover fully and fit to play,” he told club media on Thursday.
“We have been working hard in training with much focus on finishing and at the same time studying our opponents. The expectations are high and looking for nothing but full points in our next games,” stated Lubani.
During the break, the team played one friendly match against Mangochi Women Select and registered a 0-13 victory away in Mangochi.
