FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women recorded another big win in the Goshen-FAM Women’s League following a 20-0 beating of FOMO Women at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.

It was Maggie Chombo’s team’s second match of the 2024 campaign after thrashing 11 Stars 18-1 in their opener last week.

Match highlights

Rachel Matemba opened the scoring just a minute into the game and at three minutes Tendai Sani made a brilliant finish from Fauza Mohammed’s pass to double our lead.

Sani was on target again in the fifth minute, completing a brilliant move after she was fed by Mohammed. Pilirani Malora scored our fourth goal three minutes later, making good use of her captain Sharon Dzimau’s pass.

It was a hat trick for Sani as Chombo’s ladies continued their riot against the visiting team from Mulanje, scoring our fifth goal in the tenth minute.

The visitors were forced to make a change in goals after a quarter-hour mark when goalkeeper Ethness Walama collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. She was replaced by Rachel Malakalaka.

After about four minutes of stoppage, Bullets continued tormenting their opponents and Carmellina Chikuse came close in the 21st minute, however, she had her effort over the crossbar, before Sani also sent her attempt off target a minute later.

Matemba completed her hat trick in the 23rd minute, making it 7-0 for The People’s Team before Chikuse registered her name on the scoresheet five minutes later when she found the back of the net from a rebound after the opposition goalkeeper had fumbled Lyna James’ strike, 8-0.

Bullets were nine goals up a minute after the half-hour mark when Mohammed made a cool finish, connecting Beatrice Makoka’s corner kick into the far corner, and Sani followed up with our tenth goal at 34 minutes when she was released by James’ clever free kick inside the area.

Sani nearly became James’ provider moments later when she set the midfielder, who was unlucky to blast her effort from close range over the bar.

Chikuse was back in the scorers’ book when she grabbed a brace to make it 12-0 from a brilliant free-kick outside the 18-yard area, sending her left-footed setpiece into the far corner.

Malora also completed her brace in the opening half in the 39th minute, before Matemba scored our last goal of the opening period in the 41st minute, and it was 14-0 at the break.

Chombo’s side had a tough start in the opening minutes of the second half as the visitors came well organized at the back, making it difficult for Bullets attackers to penetrate.

Malakalaka’s final contribution in the match was making two brilliant saves to deny Makoka and Sani from finding the back of the net before Charity Pensulo replaced her in goal for the visitors.

Chombo made her first permutations of the match when she made three substitutions, introducing Ioulia Yiannakis for Makoka, Leah Mussa for James and Asimenye Mwanyongo for Sani.

Yiannakis nearly made an immediate impact after her introduction, opening fire from the edge of the box, but the goalkeeper did well to deny the 15-year-old before Chikuse had her effort from a free kick swaying over the woodwork.

Substitute Mwanyongo finally reopened our scoring account in the 57th minute after receiving a brilliant pass from Chikue, 15-0.

Four minutes later Yiannakis scored a beauty, guiding the ball from a magical corner kick beating Pensulo near-post.

FOMO introduced fresh legs, withdrawing Vanessa Mofolo for Vanessa Royta and Memory Mponda for Mercy Anderson.

But the new faces could not bring any changes as Chombo’s girls had settled in their half as they continued knocking for more.

Bullets made the final changes of the afternoon, introducing Matamando Makawa for Chikuse and Asiyatu George for Matemba in the 65th minute.

It only took George a minute to register her name on the score sheet, before Yiannakis doubled her tally when she made a perfect finish, powering the ball home from the D-Zone after being set by Mohammed.

Malora completed her hat trick as she scored the 19th goal at 80 minutes before Mohammed hit the last nail in the 82nd minute, and that was all, 20-0 in favour of the hosts.

What coach Maggie said after the match

“I am so excited that the girls are really doing their best, producing more goals and [only] conceding [one goal in two games].

“But still, there’s a lot we need to work on. The girls started on a good note in the first half but in the second half they missed a lot of chances, and their performance wasn’t that impressive, we will go back to training and work on that.”

What it means

Saturday’s victory means Bullets Women have a 100 per cent winning record in the new campaign, scoring 38 goals and conceding one in their opening two matches.
