Chatama’s reaction to Tigers victory

Share

Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves coach Enos Chatama was in a jovial mood after guiding the youngsters to a monumental 3-2 victory on penalty shoot-outs over TNM Super League side, Mighty Tigers in the FDH Bank Cup round-of-32 at the Mpira Stadium on Sunday.

The victory, his first ever over a Super League team, earned Bullets Reserves a ticket to the round-of-16 of the 2022 FDH Cup campaign and came at his fourth attempt for a national trophy in four years.

Facing the press after the match, Chatama expressed gratefulness in his brief reaction.

“It was a tough game.  We thank God that we are through to the next round. It wasn’t easy, but all in all, God is good, He has taken us to the next round,” said Chatama.

Despite getting the better of Mighty Tigers on post-match penalties after playing out a goalless draw, Chatama slammed his team’s wastefulness in front of goal.

“We missed a lot of chances in the second half, we could have buried the game during the normal time. I’m worried about the finishing itself. However, we will go back to the drawing board, correct those mistakes and move forward.”

Awaiting Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves in the last 16 is another Super League outfit, Red Lions, who defeated their fellow military side Zomba Airbase at the Balaka Stadium on Sunday.

Aware of that fixture Chatama admitted he doesn’t expect an easy tie.

“It will be tough [against Red Lions], but not really tough. We are going to get prepared. As far as we have gone through this level, I think all teams are equal in strength. We can fight against them. We respect them, but we don’t fear them.”

Next for Bullets Reserves will be a trip to Mangochi next weekend where they will face Mangochi United in their Thumbs Up Group B second-round first fixture.
