Early Team News: Bullets Women vs Destiny Academy

Share

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women will start their FAM National Women Championship defence with a Group A home fixture against Destiny Academy at the Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe on Saturday afternoon.

Our women’s team head coach, Maggie Chombo Sadik, spoke to club media ahead of the encounter and provided early team news, disclosing that she will start her campaign without six players.

Our top scorer, Mary Chavinda, who won the FAM Southern Region Women Football League Golden Boot, is still recovering from an injury she picked up during training the week the team resumed preparations for the group matches, while fellow striker Zainab Kapanda has been having on-and-off discomfort from a previous knee dislocation and is set to go for a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan in Lilongwe.

Chombo also provided an update on Caroline Mlenzo, who remains on the sidelines as she similarly recovers from an injury she picked up during training while disclosing that Dimba, Harry and Mohammad are unavailable due to personal reasons.

“Although there are many injuries, I believe in the remaining players. We started training a week after we bagged the regional league championship, so to me as a coach I believe I have worked and all that’s left is for the ladies to do their job,” explained the confident Chombo.

The Bullets Women mentor, a former Malawi National Women’s team forward and captain, said she was well aware of the opposition her side would be facing on Saturday as she has been following most of the Destiny Academy players, some of whom she played with during her playing spell.

“Of course, Destiny is not a side to underate hence we have to go into the match with a positive attitude for us to do well. I believe we will get a result as long as the ladies follow my instructions,” Chombo commented. “I have been following most of their players and some of them we played together, so I expect quite an encounter.”
