Fresh from the CAF Champions League first preliminary round success, the main team returns to domestic football with a midweek TNM Super League fixture as the reserves, women and youth teams also play in their respective competitions this weekend.
We take a look at what’s coming ahead this week…
First team
Kalisto Pasuwa’s charges, who last played a league game a fortnight ago, return to Kamuzu Stadium for a home game against Civil Service United on Wednesday after defeating Dragon FC of Equatorial Guinea 1-0 at Bingu National Stadium on Sunday to reach the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League with a 3-0 aggregate.
Third in the TNM Super League standings with 34 points, the defending champions will be looking to reclaim the top position after surrendering it to rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, who defeated Mafco FC 1-0 on the same day we played Dragon.
With two games in hand over the two top teams, chances are high that Pasuwa’s charges will go on the upcoming international break on top of the league because a win over the Lilongwe side will see us moving to the summit of the table with 37 points from 18 games, a game less than the rest of the top four teams.
However, it will not be an easy match considering that Civil has become a nightmare to The People’s Team, having last defeated them at the start of last season.
The midweek fixture will be another exciting match with a lot at stake.
Reserves
Enos Chatama’s charges were beaten 1-0 away to Changalume Barracks in Zomba on Sunday to drop into the second position with 25 points, one below log leaders FOMO FC.
Now, our reserves switch their attention to their next league fixture, which will be released on Tuesday by the Southern Region Football Association.
Women
Our ladies were held to a disappointing goalless draw away to our rivals Mighty Wanderers Ladies on Saturday at Chilomoni Stadium.
They will now face Envirom FC away this coming weekend.
Saturday’s goalless stalemate means our women’s team has seven points from three games, scoring 26 goals.
Youth
Autrey Kalulu’s youngsters are having a season to remember as they sit comfortably top of the FCB Under-19 Cup in Group A with 29 points after they defeated Yizo Yizo Warriors 3-2 to avenge their defeat at the hands of the bottom-placed side in the first round.
Now they face another stern test this weekend as they go head-to-head with the second-placed Griffin Youngsters in a highly anticipated encounter.
Their opponents have 23 points and they will definitely go hard on our youth side to reduce the deficit.
Kalulu’s charges have only been beaten once in their competition this campaign.
