It’s one of those tough games – Chatama ahead of Fomo clash

Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves face Fomo in the first leg of the ThumbsUp Southern Region Football League semi-final tie at Mulanje Park.

After several weeks of waiting, last Saturday our youngsters learnt that they will face the Mulanje-based outfit as it was declared not guilty of the charges Changalume Barracks sued against it.

Changalume accused Fomo of fielding two ineligible players in their quarter-final match, which the Mulanje-based side won 1-0 and had their points docked by the Southern Region Football Association after they were found guilty of the offence.

However, Fomo appealed to the Football Association of Malawi, which ruled in their favour and qualified for the semis with a 3-2 win on aggregate over the military outfit to set up a last-four tie against young Bullets.

Speaking to club media ahead of the encounter, Chatama said:

“We would welcome any team. We knew that in the end we still have to play a semi-final game. Either Changalume Barracks or Fomo FC. According to the ruling, we are going to play Fomo at Mulanje Park on Thursday. It’s one of those tough games, we are ready for any team which comes on our way.”

Bullets Reserves have been waiting and readying for the semi-final outing for three weeks, without competitive action, and our leading scorer in all competitions this season, Emmanuel Saviel, says that young Maule are ready for the next assignment.

“We only had to think about ourselves while we were waiting for this fixture. We didn’t care which team were going to play, our focus was on getting ready for this semi-final and we are ready for it,” he spoke to us before the trip to Mulanje.

Thursday’s clash will be the second meeting between the two sides in the 2022/23 season, having met in the preliminary round of the FDH Bank Cup, a fixture that our youngsters emerged as 8-1 winners at the Kamuzu Stadium, where they will meet again in the return leg of the ThumbsUp semi-final tie on Sunday.
